The district

The district of Palacio-Ópera is perhaps the most representative area of Madrid during the Habsburg reign. You will find a large number of historic buildings here, including the Royal Palace and the Opera House, the Catedral de la Almudena, the Plaza de Oriente, the Palacio de la Villa, the Senate and the Jardines de Sabatini, amongst others. The apartment is ideally located for visiting the historic city centre on foot and experiencing the streets of Bailén and Mayor, the latter of which gives access to the Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol, only 5mins from the apartment. There is also excellent access to Gran Vía from Plaza de España. The apartment is situated only 10mins from the museum triangle containing the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía Museums.

You can find some of the most traditional restaurants in Madrid in the surrounding area, as well as many bars and nightclubs. Preciados boulevard, the largest shopping street in Spain, is only 5mins away on foot.
